‘The Old Mill’ as it is now referred to, was built in 1865 and it’s future was unsure as it is obviously no longer used for the purpose it was intended. But owner Greg Medway has come up with a plan to see the building restored and very much a part of the farming industry of the future.
“We want to bring the exterior of the building back to it’s former state.” Mr Medway said. “But the interior will be a conduit to modern farming.”
Australia Agriculture Academy Ltd, of which Mr Medway is CEO, has taken residence in the Old Mill and once renovations have been lovingly completed, training for the latest farming techniques will be offered by the leading experts in each industry.
“The courses will be very specific training into areas such as robotics, hydroponics, Agri i.cloud field data and drain application, and drones.” Mr Medway said. “Graduates will be able to find work anywhere in Australia or overseas as the courses will contain the most relevant and recent data available, taught by leading experts in the industry”
Mr Medway has been working on the project for three years now and expects to have the centre up and running within two years.
“It has taken a lot of hard work to get to where we are now with the project, but it is now going ahead.” Mr Medway said.” We expect to employ 74 people at the centre, including staff to run a Chinese Tea House, where tea that is grown in our five-storey hydroponic tower can be sampled.”
“The courses run here will be designed for bringing the past into the future – for lifting students capabilities into tomorrow.”
