Historical Society Secretary, Mrs Lorraine Brown received the letter from the Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole last week, saying that the funds had been approved for the repairs.
“This is fantastic news for the Historical Society.” Mrs Brown said. “It means the repairs that the building has been needing can now be done.”
The building opened in August,1912 and originally consisted of a concert hall, a library, billiard room, projection room, a large hall and stage and a supper room in the basement.
The repair work, including replacement of the metal ceiling which has been water damaged due to leaks, affecting the mezzanine level. The ceilings and walls will then be painted. Local builder Gary White has been put in charge of managing the repairs.
“There is such a lot of our town history kept in that building, information that needs to be preserved for future generations.” Mrs Brown said.
