TWO very important club matchplays were decided on the results of the weekend games. Rick Preston narrowly got around in-form Ron Kerr by one hole on each nine to finish two up. Rick’s matchplay form has been quite sparkling this year with an unblemished record during the regular pennants season.

Todd Elliott got around Matchplay rascal Ian Clarke-Bruce with an emphatic victory 5/4. Todd has been practising over in Canberra but is in form at home with a recent big win in the mixed foursomes with Mum Jeanette, showing how much he loves his home track.
The final will need to be played by the end of September between Rick and Todd and this should be a very handy match when it gets scheduled should you wish to drift along and watch. Rick has a very deliberate and calculating style, whilst Todd presents with youth and confidence, there being no shot in the book he cannot make.

IN A massive form reversal from his woeful escapades in the club championships, Craig Filmer has pulled one out of his ... hat, to pick up the Nathan Schofield Trophy Individual Stableford last Saturday.
Craig could not find form with a cut lunch, full tank of gas, a water bottle and the championships stored up his clacker (for you Bernie) for the last four months. But it all came easy on Saturday despite two double bogeys early being a feature of this round, which was four shots better than his handicap of 13.
Craig picked up the trophy narrowly beating a fast finishing Todd Elliott who had 39. Through the graciousness of Nathan Schofield and his building Company, Todd and Craig were recipients of very generous trophy donations.
Balls on the day went back to 36 points where you had to play to your handicap to even get a ball. This was a challenge where icy winter winds yet a shining sun made it a tough day on the links. The ball comp was led off by Bernie Parker who went down in a countback to Todd who finished with a stronger back 9. Balls also went to Michael Baldry (38), Rick Preston (37) and Peter Steinke (36).
On the Bendigo Bank Hole in One hole, Todd Elliott ripped one in to 2.6m narrowly getting around Craig’s paltry 12m effort, to claim the ball for nearest.
