Hilltops Council candidate Rita O’Connor insists the Hilltops region is capable of far more than most expect. With economic, environmental, and community innovation at the top of her agenda, she believes that opportunities in the Hilltops are endless.

With a solid understanding of the local economic climate, her key ambition is to develop strategy that promotes direction for economic development. A focus of Ms O’Connor’s campaign is to attract new business to the Hilltops region.

“We must develop growth in jobs and the local economy,” Ms O’Connor said. “We need increased road funding, Harden needs natural gas and Boorowa needs potable water. These are absolutely vital for our communities to function and advance.”

“Developing sustainable practices such as recycling and renewable energy are crucial for long term economic viability. We must look at our land use and rationalise residential land for sale. I want an LEP that is proactive about the possibilities of investigating diverse sustainable practices.”

Ms O’Connor will lobby for improved educational opportunities for both young people and adults. She believes education is key to expanding existing business while encouraging innovative ideas within the community.

Ms O’Connor understands the importance of promoting initiatives to build and integrate communities that offer support to local families. A Rotarian and member of the Local Health Advisory Committee, she believes we must retain current medical services and lobby for improved services for youth, mental health, and mothers of young children.
