A strong field turned out to play a rarely contested par event at Harden Country Club on Saturday. Even the two ladies who came looking for a game were excited to be playing this wonderful event.

In a turn up for the books, the flying Scotsman has made an early season return to form and shot out ahead of the field to win the Harden Country Club Trophy put on for the days outing. Tam recorded a very handy +4 and was grinning with the JPS Voucher he received. Maybe it was the strong breeze that reminded Tam of his heritage and the hills in the highlands, whatever it was, it worked.
To top it further, Tam also recorded nearest the pin on the Bendigo Bank Whopper Account Hole in One Hole. Tam has not failed to hit this green every week now in February and March so maybe something has clicked. His shot in to 2.7 metres claimed the ball for his efforts.
Balls went back to + 1 in a strong outing by the field. Ron Kerr at +3 led off the best of the rest, with Tim Beveridge +2, Ron Page +2, Matt Piesley +2 and Darrell Cassidy +1 claiming the remainder.
Kerr Coming Into Form..Again
The Club Summer Championship B Grade Winner, Ron Kerr has struck form again after a little hiatus. When we look at weekend golf, scores of 3 or 4 under the handicap usually wins. Not for the midweekers! Sure it’s a different and dynamic handicap system but wow. Ron has beaten his 12 hole handicap by a whopping 9 shots to bring in a 33 point result on the par 24 course.
Yes you heard me, a whole 9 shots better. Ron has not been alone with recent weeks results showing that something special happens over this shorter form of the game. Ron took the bikkies and got lopped those 9 shots for his troubles. Ron resumes on 5 next week.
Ron also shot the 2nd best score for the week on his Friday round, bringing in a mere 31 point score, or 7 better than his handicap. Third was shared by two blokes who seem to have their name in the placegetters space most weeks, David James and Garth Webb who had 28 points. The real question is who will poke their head out for the guillotine this week ?? 24 starters went at the fray this week.
This Week
Both the Men’s and Ladies will be competing in individual stableford events. The boys will be playing on Saturday and the girls from lunch time on Sunday. Regionally, the Binalong Club has a 2 person ambrose tournament in on Sunday should members be keen to travel and support our neighbours.
Joke for the week:
Noting that her husband looked more haggard and disgruntled than usual after his weekly golf game, his wife asked what was wrong.
"Well, on the 4th hole, Harry had a heart attack and died. It was terrible! he said. The entire rest of the day, it was hit the ball, drag Harry, hit the ball, drag Harry!"
