There’s $5500 on offer for the poets. But there’s more than that. There’s the buzz of being part of something exciting; the joy of laughter; the satisfaction of engaging with ideas; the pleasure to be had from rubbing shoulders with others who value and encourage Australian poetry, yarns and music.
Come and enjoy the thrill of competition or sit back and enjoy the open mic sessions. The walk-ups provide a warm and encouraging space for the non-competitive, the nervous and those who prefer to read, as well as a warm-up stage for competitors.
The weekend program is designed for maximum enjoyment and to include poets at all ages and stages. Friday evening kicks off at the Hotel Binalong with a novice competition then walk-ups (including yarn spinners). Saturday and Sunday are full with Binalong Bush Poetry Prize competitions plus non-competitive activities and time to relax, chat and explore Binalong.
Saturday night will feature the “Celebrate Australia Concert” – featuring judges Carol Heuchan, Graeme Johnson (The Rhymer From Ryde), Carol Reffold and Robyn Sykes as well as local and visiting poets and musicians.
The cost for a three-day festival pass for audience members is $50 adult, $40 concession. Saturday Day Pass, Celebrate Australia Concert and Sunday Day Pass individually cost $20 adult or $15 concession. Children accompanied by parents are free. Volunteers receive great discounts.
With 5500 reasons to be involved, what are you waiting for? Entry forms and information sheets can be downloaded from www.abpa.org.au, or email robynsykespoet@gmail.com, or call 6227 4377.
