It was the first time that the two schools combined for the event and it was hailed as a success.
After a formal welcome, acknowledgement of country and a march-by, students cheered their fellow team mates on as all students competed in the 100 metre sprints.
The students then joined their appropriate age groups and participated in a range of track and field events, including long jump, discus, 800 metre runs and novelty events.
Many parents, siblings, grandparents and community members came along to support the students and those present observed the wonderful sportsmanship and enthusiasm on display throughout the day. The school values of respect, responsibility and empathy were made clearly evident across all age groups.
MPS teacher Renee Ford acknowledged the support from the wider community.
“We are just so fortunate at MPS to have such wonderful parent and community backing. The number of helpers and supporters this year was just outstanding”.
“It just wouldn’t be possible to coordinate such a fantastic day without the support of our school community”, said Ford on Friday.
“The children were so engaged and it was great to see each child smiling and having a go at every event. That’s the real aim for the day; to get every child trying their best and participating in a range of activities”, the teacher said.
The day culminated in student house relays followed by the ever-popular parent vs teacher relay. House chants rang out aplenty as the ‘big kids’ showed that it’s not always about winning, but having a go and facing a challenge head on.
Mokera (Red) House were the overall winners on the day.
Over at Trinity Catholic Primary School Murrumburrah sport has also featured prominently in the past few weeks.
The school held an equestrian fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday, while on Friday a number of students represented the school in touch football at Penrith.
Hunter Ings, Katie Rose O’Connor, Patrick Davis, Eliza Butt, Jesse Glover and Emily Lenehan all played well on the day.
This comes after two year 6 students, Harrison Hadley and Sam Shea, travelled to Canberra on Friday, May 6 to try out for the MacKillop trials. Both boys played extremely well on the Canberra Goulburn team, making some great tackles and runs. Unfortunately Harrison had to be taken to hospital with concussion and the game was called off with 5 minutes left.
