The school’s Keogh Hall was absolutely packed for the evening and the night went off without a hitch.
A BBQ dinner was put on before the show and upon entering the the hall, all spectators were offered Wonka lollies available at the door.
Bella Cooper and Brody Schofield did an excellent job combining their roles, being in charge of the music and narrating also.
The audience witnessed the talents of Hunter Minson as Grandpa Jo, Talai Vasquez as Grandma Josephine, Hunter Bowman as Charlie Bucket, Georgia Squire-Wilson as Grandma Georgina and Heidi O’Connor as Grandpa George.
Angus Lenehan played Willy Wonka, showing very much that he too can be eccentric just like Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in the respective movies of the story.
Jonathan Barnes (Augustus Gloop), Hayley Hambrook (Violet Beuregarde), Josephine Davis-Chard (Veruca Salt), Mike Tea Vee (Oliver Minehan) were very effective in their portrayals of their respective characters as were Connor Waters (Daddy), George Daly (Reporter),
Oscar Phillis did a fine job playing the man as did Georgie Ings as the woman and the pair along with Daly were squirrels at one point in the evening.
Many students proved their versatility throughout the night by doubling up in certain roles..
One of the highlights of the show was the very catchy dancing and singing of the Oompa Loompas which had several members of the strong crowd on their feet at various stages.
Amelia Rowan, Vasquez, Kurtis Schoppema, Waters, Isabel Duke, Zarlie Quinn and Ty Leitner very much looked the part of the Oompa Loompas and they played the part very well also.
At the end of the show, school principal Mary-Lou Gorham got up and thanked the crowd for their wonderful attendance to the show.
She also congratulated the students on delivering a wonderful performance and reserved a special thanks for year 3 teacher Penny Lucas who worked so hard with the children to make it all happen.
Coordinator Penny Lucas was a proud teacher on the night explaining that the students’ performed most admirably.
“I thought they were just excellent, they were good with their lines, they projected their voices really well and they showed composure when waiting for applauses before going on.
“They have all read the book, watched the movie and on Wednesday they did a show for the Bunyip Pre-School which was great, but they were really really good tonight,” she said.
Mrs Lucas also thanked assistant principal Beck Cooper who was also instrumental behind the scenes.
