This year marks 150 years since police shot bushranger 'Flash' Johnny Gilbert dead just outside of Binalong.
Gilbert’s Grave remains signposted to this day.
At the time, Gilbert was one of the most notorious figures in Australia.
To mark the occasion and the town’s link to the bushranger heritage of Australia, Binalong community members and visitors will kick up their heels and re-create life in the 'good old days'.
Gilbert was a member of the famous Ben Hall's gang.
Hall and Gilbert were both shot by police within a week of each other.
After Hall was killed his gang split up and Gilbert and John Dunn travelled to Binalong seeking sanctuary with Dunn’s relatives.
The police were hot on their heels and Gilbert met his fate.
Hot off the success of Harden’s Gold Trail Festival, the Wild Colonial Weekend is the only chance to mark the 150 year anniversary of the death of Johnny Gilbert in the village where it happened.
From the street parade and the historic reenactment to the unveiling of the new version of Binalong's famous mural, there'll be something for everyone to see or do this weekend.
