“I like experiments, and blowing up things,” student Loren Daley said.
Fellow student Mitch Brown excitedly recalled his idea for a jet-powered boat using diet coke and mentos for propulsion.
Thankfully they were not disappointed on Monday afternoon making mini rockets from vinegar and bicarb soda during the very first Genius Hour, a science-themed follow up to the hugely successful Twilight Study program.
“We want to ignite the students’ curiosity about science, and to inspire them to be inquisitive and find the answers for themselves,” principal Clare Crawford said.
Ms Crawford is hopeful it will also help bridge the gap between primary and high school, as the lessons are led by Murrumburrah High School science teacher Jan Young.
It was clear on Monday that at least the first aim is already a success.
