Binalong Bits
Family and friends paid their last respects and said their final goodbyes to Janice Margaret Elphick at a moving service conducted by Reverend Pauline Dare at the Anglican portion of the local cemetery last Thursday. The numbers there showed their appreciation of the assistance she had given to local people needing help over the years. John White in his words of Jan's life said in her younger days she was always ready for an adventure. As a close friend I think she possibly looked at her fast approaching death as her last great adventure. I hope when my time comes, I can die with the grace and dignity that she displayed.

Illi is a very sad little dog but he is going to a good home where he will be loved by two small boys.
WHAT a wet and soggy few days we have just had and still not a great deal of rain. We don't need anything like the coastal areas have seen. Floods again on the coast and still dry as a bone in the western inland area. As a Dutch friend once said, this is a queer country with floods one end of it and bushfires the other.
The soggy weekend proved un-enticing for most of the golfers with only a small number braving the conditions on Sunday afternoon. Jason Saunders was the winner.
Next weekend Godfrey Regan will donate the trophies for a three person Ambrose over nine holes and following a draw for partners. Should be an interesting event. The draw for the nine holes match play comp has been done and is on the noticeboard.
Bill Arabin will donate the ladies trophy on Sunday for a stableford event and Ben Grange will provide a trophy for the men's stableford.
On May 6 the local club will host the south west ladies' teams event, probably up to 90 or more players.
I received the awful news that Daniel McGeachie, older son of David McGeachie, has passed away at the age of 39 years. Daniel was a junior golfer here years ago when they lived in Canberra. His grandparents were well known Binalong people, Col and Jean.
