Murrumbidgee Medicare Local (MML) is reminding community members to have their eyes checked this July to help prevent vision loss.
“Every 65 minutes an Australian loses part or all of their vision, however most causes of vision loss is entirely preventable or treatable if found early” MML Chairman Dr Max Graffen said this week.
“Vision loss often happens gradually so by the time you notice it the damage is mostly done,” Dr Graffen added.
“Having regular eye checks can help to detect any issues before they become a major issue so have your eyes checked regularly by an optometrist or seek a referral to a specialist if appropriate.”
JulEYE is The RANZCO Eye Foundation’s national eye health awareness month that takes place during July each year and aims to raise community awareness of eye health issues and contribute to research to help with preventing and treating vision loss.
“If you have a family history of eye disease, you are at greater risk so make sure you talk to your family about eye health so you are fully informed,” he said.
