A spokesperson for Healthscope, which operates the NSW hospital, told ACM that an investigation was under way.
"Out of respect for patient and family confidentiality, we will not be discussing an individual patient's condition or treatment. All patient incidents are investigated in line with NSW Health policy".
Northern Beaches Hospital chief operating officer Peter Thomas said on February 27 at a NSW budget estimates hearing that an early investigation had not uncovered any misconduct following the death of the newborn on February 22.
"There was an emergency caesarean section performed on the mother who was transferred to Northern Beaches Hospital," he said.
"The preliminary risk assessment has been done and hasn't highlighted any key deficiencies as far as I'm aware."
"Northern Beaches Hospital extends its condolences to the family for their loss," a spokesperson said.
The state's chief obstetrician and NSW Health are investigating the baby's death.
The 488-bed Northern Beaches Hospital opened in 2018 to replace two smaller public hospitals and is one of 38 Australian hospitals operated by Healthscope.
