The School of Rock star surprised fans at a premiere of his new film Borderlands saying that band is taking a break but they will return "when it feels right".

"We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime," he told Variety at the premiere.
Black said he and Gass have remained friends saying "that hasn't changed, these things take time sometimes".
Backlash after Trump comments
Gass made a birthday wish "don't miss Trump next time" during a concert in Sydney on July 14 just hours after a failed assassination of Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
Black announced the band would pause "all future creative plans" following backlash to the comment while Gass apologised saying "I don't condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone".
United Australia Party senator Ralph Babet called for Tenacious D to be deported from Australia two days after the onstage gaffe while Australian ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd said he wished the comedy duo would "grow up and find a decent job".
Gass has been dropped by his agent Michael Greene, Greene Talent confirmed in July.
