As you will recall, GRNSW bought a slot for this new event which will be run at The Meadows on December 18, and the opportunity of selecting the dog is being offered to the general public.
GRNSW will finalise the list of 10 candidates over the weekend and then next week voting opens to the public to select the People's Dog to race in our slot.
Happy Birthday
Last Saturday was a significant day for GRNSW as it signaled the 13th birthday of our rehoming organisation, Greyhounds As Pets. GAP has grown substantially and significantly during those 13 years, and I could not be prouder of the work and devotion of the entire team. Welfare is at the forefront of everything we do at GRNSW, and the importance of the GAP programs and their rehoming achievements is never underestimated.
A Great Career
After 35 years as the lure driver at Richmond, Vic Sultana called it a day last weekend.
Vic has driven the lure at trials and race meetings since the 1980s, but decided it was time to step away from the role. He won't however be lost to the industry as he will continue his very successful career as a trainer.
The Sultana name is a well known one in our industry with Vic's son Darren, his brother Sam, and nieces Michelle and Kristy all having had success in the sport.
Back in 2018, Vic had some great wins with Sky Wave, who was also third behind Mystic Riot and Jamella Jet in the inaugural Million Dollar Chase grand final.
Jockey Aboard
Leading Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla has a real love affair for greyhound racing, and his promising dog Fernando Hunter returned in style at Maitland on Monday.
Named after his son Hunter, the dog looked very good winning in the best time of the night.
Fernando Hunter has won seven of his 11 starts for trainer Darryl Thomas, and we can expect to see him at Wentworth Park very soon.
Good Luck
The big Melbourne Cup carnival kicks off on Friday at Sandown, and I want to wish good luck to all the NSW greyhounds competing, Jack Smith's star Jungle Deuce in the Cup heats, while in the Bold Trease stayers' NSW will have five runners: Line of Quality, Kylie Keeping, Super Estrella, Stanley Road and Miss Ezmae.
