The sport went for maximum participation in the nine available weeks since the mid-July resumption and the curtain will come down after a massive 48 games at Wagga's Parramore Park.

"Our whole executive is so pleased (to hold a season) and most of the feedback has been very, very good," Delaney said.

"There was a little bit (of negative feedback) in regards to not playing finals, but not much. Bugger all really.

"The main thing was to get them back playing football... and a lot of the people that have spoken to me have talked about how relaxed it is because there's no finals."

The juniors wanted to complete their season ahead of Group Nine seniors meaning there wasn't time to tag on a finals series now, and nor did they want to cut into the home-and-away games in a short season.

Timing and participation drove the decision to start with but Delaney believes there have been many benefits from a focus on enjoying footy rather than qualifying for finals.

"They say it's non-competitive. Kids are always competitive, regardless, and we've seen some really tough matches," Delaney said.

"But if you only have a nine week comp, the kid that hasn't got a lot of ability isn't going to get a lot of game time at all because teams can't afford to drop games or coaches are worried about missing finals.

"They've had a chance to change things around and try kids in different positions and some have come along in leaps and bounds. The good kids you're teaching better skills and the guy that's not so good is getting 10 or 15 minutes instead of five."

Efforts to manage protocols and adapt to constant changes have been "a credit to all the clubs", Delaney said.

But with a bit of luck, there's hope 2021 will see something of a return to normal.

"We'd like to think so. Hopefully we're looking at a full comp next year, with finals. But that's all in the lap of the gods at the moment."
