That feeling is just one of the things that make the Harden Kite Festival so special for the small band of volunteers who currently organise the event.
Next Tuesday, March 3 Harden residents are invited to become part of the event by attending its annual general meeting.
"It's a great way to meet new people, help a small community and to be part of something exciting for our region," current Festival committee member Lucy Targett said this week.
The 2019 organising committee consisted of local mums and two new residents, Lucy and her husband Stephen, who became involved to be part of their new community.
"Some committee members would like to take a step back in 2020, fresh ideas and assistance are needed to continue delivering this fantastic community event in October," Ms Targett said.
The annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3 from 6pm at the Harden-Murrumburrah Arts Council (old Court House, Albury St).
If you are unable to attend, and would still love to help, please still get in touch with Lucy on 0448 255 714.
"We'd optimally like five people (on the committee), it would really help with making decisions and organising the jobs involved in getting sponsorship, the market stalls, kids activities, there's a range of things people could branch out on," Ms Targett said.
"On top of that we need volunteers to help set up the event."
Last year the Targett's helped Julie Dunstan and Wendy Medway, who have been involved for four years, run the event which attracted 4000 visitors.
The previous year 8000 attended.
"(Wendy and Julie) are hoping to step down, it's been four years of them working very hard," Ms Targett said.
"My husband and I helped last year and we need more volunteers than just us.
"Anyone is welcome to attend the annual general meeting.
"Just come and listen, you don't have to attend every meeting through the course of the year leading up to the event.
"Just be there and decide if you want this event to continue.
"We're new to the area, we only moved to Harden last year and we were the only two new faces to turn up to the meeting last year.
"The town has had this beautiful kite festival for 15 years nearly.
"Everyone loves the kite festival, everyone raves about it, it is a great event, it's really a big thing for a small town like Harden to have over 4000 people attend an event like this.
"We've had 8000 the previous year, that was a very big year to have that many people coming from all around, other states and professional kite flyers.
"It would be really lovely if we could have more of the town help out and make decisions and find if they want this event to continue."
Ms Targett said her passion for events, a liking for kites and the desire to meet new people helped make the decision to become involved last year easier.
"I wanted to be part of the community and to volunteer my time and I dragged my husband along and he loved meeting new people too," Ms Targett said.
The 2020 Harden Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, October 10, the final weekend of the October school holidays.
