The Harden Hawks played the Boorowa Rovers at McLean Oval on the weekend, in what was a must-win game for Boorowa.
With both teams were battling a lot of injuries and having depleted benches, the first half was a very tight affair. Boorowa led 10 to 6 at the break, after Michael West scored a try for the Hawks.
In the second half Boorowa came out firing, playing some great football, which got them to a 22 to 6 lead.
The Hawks scored a great try through Ben Davis, bringing the score to 22 to 12, but Boorowa were not going to be denied and scored late to win 28 to 12, with Austin Power, Jayden Cutting and Ben Potts doing the damage for Boorowa.
Best Hawks players were Pat Smith and Ben Davis. The Hawks will play the Bungendore Tigers at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan on Saturday in the Major Semi Final. In the elimination, the Boorowa Rovers will play Crookwell in Boorowa this Sunday.
Harden Hawkettes
The Hawkettes also played Boorowa at McLean, in what was another must-win game for the Roverettes to make the Semi Finals.
The Hawkettes dominated right from the word 'go', with a great try where the ball swung from one corner to the other, allowing Abbey Ward to score a sensational team try.
Emma James was dominant with her passing and kicking, while Grace Smith was tearing apart the Boorowa defence, allowing the Hawkettes to lead 32 to 0 at the halftime break.
The second half was a tight contest. Jess Doolan, Clare Smith and Bridie Minehan were all great and the Hawkettes ran out winners 48 to 0 in a convincing team effort and finish the season undefeated Minor Premiers for the second year running.
The Hawkettes defence has been outstanding all year, allowing just one try scored against them. A tremendous effort. The girls will now have a week off and then play the winner of the Crookwell v Canberra Bears game.
Canberra Awards night
Emma James, Georgia Smith and Tara McGrath West have all been nominated for awards and will travel through to Canberra next Wednesday. Good luck girls, Harden is behind you all the way!
