With the Singles Championships done and dusted and also competing with the annual Greg Whitehead Fishing Challenge, a surprisingly good roll up at golf took advantage of the break in the winter weather for a glorious day on the track.

Proving he may well have given our C Grade champion, Robert Bates a little bit of a scare had he not had commitments on day four of the championships, Herbie Manwaring has shaken his tail feather to prove too good for the field on Saturday. Herbie has presented to the judges with a very tidy 40 point round in the individual stableford format.
Maurie was just too good for Peter Steinke who did his best work on the front 9, and a fast-finishing Craig Filmer who ended his run with 2 in a row into the big tree on 17 off the tee, both now in the safe hands of Bob Randall beside his fireplace in the shed. Pete and Craig had 39 points to be 1 point back from Herbie.
Peter and Craig led off the ball comp with their 39 point rounds, whilst the other balls on the day went to the sponsor himself Ron Kerr on 36 points (c/b) and Tim Beveridge 36 points (c/b). The unlucky countbacker was Kevin Hoppe. Not to deter Kevin, however, as he got a ball the other way. Kevin was nearest the pin on the Bendigo Bank Hole in One hole with a sweet little knock into 2.05m, which he duly sunk to bank the birdie.
Pat Walker on fire
A modest field of ladies realised the weather would be spot on last Saturday and they enjoyed a lovely day out vying for Val Henderson's trophy. Pat Walker proved too good playing 3 below her handicap to bring home a 71 nett round to claim the day. Our runner-up on the day was Ev Shea who was within range of her handicap, shooting a 75 nett.
A further ball was presented to Marj Manwaring who presented to the judges with a 76 nett.
Midweek Mauler
Our midweekers resumed play this week after hibernating briefly in the Polar Blitz weather of recent weeks and a good field came out to give the great course conditions the treatment. King of the Hill this week was none other than Jim Wright. Jim has scored a very handsome round of 28 stableford points or 4 better than the course par of 24 for the 12 hole midweek layout.
Jim has damaged his handicap by a good chunk with the 4 he won by now deducted, leaving him with a new deductible of 17 ... hmm, still a bit rich I heard the boys say. Jim was 1 shot ahead of Herb Manwaring who hit a purple patch this week and scored 27 points. Darkhorse or favourite for next week - you be the judge.
Third went to Ron Kerr on 26 points knocking out some good golf at present, whilst fourth was nailed down by Pat Walker and Herb Manwaring who were good for 25 points or 1 better than their handicap. The random mystery ball prize has gone to David James.
The boys have their Foursomes Championships on Saturday and Sunday, while the ladies will be presenting for the August monthly medal.
