June long weekend usually spells a Shark Shootout format at the country club and it's beginning to claim some affinity with golfers from away - visiting Harden to enjoy the wonderful hospitality and the fun formats on offer for teams of two.

This year, the club presented a two-day format with two person Ambrose and Canadian Foursomes as the point score formats for the overall prizes on offer.
Prizes were paid in both scratch and nett divisions meaning that every team of every ability was in the running daily and also overall, with only one prize per team permitted.
This year, our scratch division went to Ben Glover (Harden Club champion) and his good friend and low marker Sam Porter from Yass Golf Club. Ben and Sam played faultless golf on both days to present at -2 combined for the weekend with rounds of 68 72 on the par 71 layout course.
Ben and Sam picked up the point score on each day in this division to easily account for their nearest opponents, and collect the goodies on Sunday evening.
In the handicap division, Kym Butler and Graham Fleming, of Yass, proved that consistency was the key over the two formats, surging past day one leaders Ron Page and Craig Filmer with a super day two score in the arguably tougher game. Kym Graham netted 65 and 71 to account for their rivals by one point score point.
After our major champions were announced, the daily winners came next. David Robinson and Ian Lavendar, from Wauchope Golf Club, picked up day one scratch, with 70 off the stick, whilst the day one nett went to Harden's Ron Page and Craig Filmer, who played out of their skin for a 63 nett.
Day two scratch went to Harden's own Darrell Cassidy and Robert Bates, whilst the day two nett went to the Harden and Moruya Golf Club's brotherly combination of Brian and Garry Wales.
Nearest the Pins on day one went to Tim Beveridge at 2.7m from the 10th hole, whilst Pat Walker claimed the ladies at 7.5m. On day two, the nearest the pin went to Garry Wales at 3.2m.
Balls on the overall went to Bernie Parker Tam Kennedy, Maurice Manwaring, Eric Kuhn and Richard Harris (Wauchope) and John Hawkins.
Special thanks to Karen Glover for the scoring assistance and to Jacqui and the bar crew.
Marjie Mauls the Masses
The chance for a bit of alliteration was just too tempting, but it's all true. Marj Manwaring has obliterated the field this week in the 12 hole par 24 point stableford.
Marj recorded a very tidy 31 stableford points to beat her handicap by a massive 7 shots and account for her nearest rival by 3 shots. Marj has the dubious honour of being docked the whole 7 shots off her weekly 12 hole handicap in a brutal school and will begin her campaign again this week off a new and mere handicap of 22.5.
Second and beginning to figure a little more regularly on the podium is David James. Ordinarily, 28 points might be enough to win the week and some have won on less.
In third place, last week were Ron Kerr, Graham Taylor and David James, who all shot even par nets to equal out in third place. Our mystery and random ball draw went this week to Peter Steinke.
This week our gents will be competing for Matt Minehan's Carpentry's Trophy in an individual stableford, whilst our ladies will be competing for a club trophy stableford.
In the Dempster Cup, this weekend requires the finalisation of round 2 quarterfinal matches and also a reminder that the Bendigo Bank Hole in One will be on for members on Saturday's events.
Our pennants team will be competing in Gundagai against Young on Sunday and we wish Craig, Tam, Nathan, Brian and Tim well in what is a must win outcome.
Claim the Date
July 20: This looks most likely to be the date that the new State Golf event replacing former Keno and Sydney Morning Herald formats, will be played at Harden Country Club. Team in either Mens, Womens and Mixed will be received for a 2 Person Ambrose and qualifiers in each section will go to the Regional Qualifier for a chance to get to Bonville at Coffs Harbour by the end of the year. Set that date aside and get ready.
