“For such a small school, we have so much to offer,” Murrumburrah High School captain Hannah Phillis said.
Hannah and her fellow captain, Tara McGrath-West have certainly taken advantage of the range of these offerings.
From Farm Club to debating, from catering to driver training, for a small rural school, the girls, and the school, certainly punch above their weight.
Tara, whose dream is to work as a physiotherapist specialising in athlete rehabilitation, has sport in her sights most days. In athletics, Tara has represented the school, the zone and the region and the state.
Hannah, who desires a career in hospitality, is the backbone of the school’s award-winning Farm Club. She has successfully represented the school at interstate and national shows and sees work in hospitality as a ticket to travel.
The culture of high expectations at Murrumburrah High School is demonstrated by the range of onsite learning programs in addition to traditional subjects such as agriculture, primary industries, industry curriculum frameworks such as hospitality and construction.
In 2019 two new programs have been added to the curriculum; a blended learning program for Stage 4 which uses english, maths, science and geography in a project-based learning environment to teach students about areas of interest, and the IVY program – a wellbeing program that consolidates personal wellbeing in a community focus.
