One of my earliest memories would be my grandmother giving me me one of those little pink Barbie Beetles for Christmas when I was four.. I absolutely loved it, so that’s where my love of Volkswagen Beetles stemmed from.
My parents and I moved to Young when I was about three years old and when I was old enough, I started Young Public School, and then on to Hennessy Catholic School for my high school years.
Growing up in the hilltops has given me a really great sense of community and how important it is to belong.

Throughout school, my classmates called me by my middle name, which is Drew and I got to know lots of people in the Hilltops because I worked at McDonalds after school, making coffee.
My favourite subjects were art and creative writing. I have always enjoyed writing, whether narratives or essays – it didn’t really matter to me, I just loved to write.
After I left school, I started working full time in retail for a local telecommunication store and finally got the chance to purchase my dream car; a bright red Volkswagen Beetle.
Recently, I took a job opportunity at a local paper to pursue my dream career; working in media. I also hope to get my journalism degree and hope to study part time to achieve this goal.
Ambition-wise, I would love to be a journalist working for one of our local papers. While I’m sure it would be very fast-paced writing for bigger papers, I think working somewhere like the Hilltops would be much more rewarding since you get to build such solid relationships within the community.
Outside of work, I love travelling and spending time with my friends and my senior rescue dog Mellie, who is a terrier cross with a big personality.
Growing up in the Hilltops has given me a really great sense of community and lifelong friendships that I’ve had since starting school. I love walking into local stores, being on first name basis with the staff and able to have a chat with them.
I would eventually like to move on to somewhere like Sydney or Canberra, but not until much later in life. That being said, I definitely would like to return to the Hilltops after that, I don’t think I could permanently give up the scenery and the people of the Hilltops..
