SPRING is the perfect time to get out and about in Warrnambool. From musicals and concerts to BMX championships and horse racing, here’s a selection of 10 spring events in Warrnambool that are well worth popping on your calendar.
1. Warrnambool Organ Festival, August 31 - September 2
The inaugural Warrnambool Organ Festival showcases the pipe organs that reside at many of the local churches in Warrnambool. Venues include St Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Warrnambool Uniting Church, Christ Church, St John’s Presbyterian Church, the Lutheran Church and Mozart Hall.
2. Paris Underworld, September 5, Lighthouse Theatre
Enter the Paris Underground and journey through the dark delights of the city of light. Witness astounding acts of magic and illusion, spectacular tap dancing, brilliant burlesque, breathtaking aerials, quirky circus, stand up comedy and incendiary song in a classic European cabaret and variety show.
3. South West Maker Fest, September 14
This exciting experience is back again for another year. After a hugely successful Maker Fest in 2017, it’s back with another huge exploratorium of inventive action that aims to give young people the tools and inspiration to create.
4. Spring School Holiday Program, Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village, September 22 - October 7
Experience the history in an enchanting maritime village that is alive with kids activities, farm animals, warm food, fresh air and ocean views. Highlights include Friday Flix (movies in the Village), craft and cooking.
5. Oktoberfest Surfside Holiday Parks - Shipwreck Bay site, October 6
Whether it be the German Oompah band entertaining the Hofbrau main stage during the day alongside the Miss and Mr Oktoberfest and bratwurst eating competition, or the Haus stage with some of the countries biggest acts in house music, you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied.
6. Gymnastics Victoria Regional Championships, October 6 & 7
The growth in women’s gymnastics in Victoria means that there are more competitors than ever throughout Victoria.
7. Celebrage Festival Various locations, October 8-18
Over the course of the festival a range of events are planned aimed at promoting positive ageing within the community and active living. Throughout the week there are an array of events for the whole family, including social activities, competitions, trips, tours, concerts, dances and movies.
8. Toyota Oaks Day Warrnambool Racecourse, November 8
Spring Racing at the ‘bool has got it all. Get your friends and head trackside for a great day of spring racing at Warrnambool Toyota Oaks Day. There’s live racing at the track, a superscreen beaming races straight from Flemington as well as the Marriott Melbourne Hotel Fashions on the Field.
9. Premier Speedway November 3 & 17
It’s a new season and what better way to start than with Round 3 of the Eureka Sprintcar Series. There is also an amazing night of Junior Sedan action, as the stars of the future battle it out in the Yeoman Williams Memorial.
10. BMX State Championships Warrnambool BMX Track, November 17 & 18
Warrnambool will be a buzz with BMX activity in spring, with the Warrnambool Open and the Victorian BMX State Titles.
