Youth League played the Canberra Bears and got off to a flying start to lead 18 to nil at half time.
On the back of some great charges from Will Quinn and Jack Hinds, along with some crunching defence from Nic Stevens, the second half saw the Bears come out firing, scoring back to back converted tries to make the score 18 to 12.
The Bears were thriving on a couple of mistakes and penalties. To the Youth League’s credit, their defence held firm and they scored a late try to win 24 to 12, meaning they are Grand Final bound.
They will take on Yass, who defeated the boys in the Major Semi 20 to 10; however the boys have had a win and a draw with them through the season.
The keys to this game will be Will Quinn and Jakob Halls getting the team going forward; and the class of Nic Stevens, Will Stanley and Austin Power to create their attack. Young hooker Adam Hinds has been great all season and his brother Jack Hinds is a match winner with his great hard running. I tip Hawks by 4.
Hawkettes
The Hawkettes will take on Bungendore in the Grand Final for the third year running. The girks have had a great season, starting with winning the West Wyalong knockout over Yenda and remaining undefeated throughout the competition. However, this will mean nothing come Saturday unless they get the victory in the big game.
Meeting with Bungendore this year have seen the Hawkettes win 20 to 10 and 18 to 12. Keys to the game will be a wet field, the class of Emma James’s kicking, and for the Hawkettes to get field position.
Georgia Smith, who has scored 32 tries this season will lead the Hawkettes attack and Maddie Douglas will look to use her speed wide out.
Tara McGrath West has been sensational in her first season for the Hawkettes; class over the paddock. But most importantly the girls pride themselves on their defence, keeping the opposition sides’ score to zero in ten games this year. Go Hawkettes!
Hawks
The Hawks took on the Bears on Saturday, knowing the match would decide who would go on to the Grand Final. The Bears were the first to score, leading 6 to 0 at half time.
The Hawks scored through Tyson Astill to make it 6 all. The Bears dropped a field goal with 17 minutes remaining to lead 7 to 6.
The Hawks rallied and showed great courage with numerous players injured. A kick from Carl Johnson found Luke Brown, who scored under the post, meaning the Hawks led 12 to 7 with 7 minutes to go.
The Bears never gave up attacking and they scored a late try to break Harden heats and win 15 to 12. The Hawks showed great fighting spirit and courage to pushed the Bears all the way.
