Playing a whopping nine shots better than his handicap of 20, McPake has had an 82 off the beater, for 45 stableford points.
This was enough to see his nearest competitor off by at least five points and claim the Cullinga Mines Gift event and Michael Baldry Trophy.
On a side note, Michael has had a hand-crafted wooden wood duck trophy created to make it a bit of a challenge cup perpetually.
We thank him for this and also for his generous trophy of a food and wine feast in the 19th Hole Restaurant in the Club.
Three of our entrants tied for second place, but were not within a bull’s roar of McPake.
Tam Kennedy, Craig Henman and Tim Beveridge all led off the ball comp with 40 points and a good days work, whilst further balls went to Peter Elliott, Kevin Hoppe and Ashley Hall, who shot 37 points and maintained rounds better than their respective handicaps.
In the Bendigo Bank Hole in One, nearest the pin competition, our winner was also the nearest at 1m exact.
Ron Kerr Claims Midweek Prize
THE midweekers played their penultimate week of early starts with the impending daylight savings changes marking the return to lunch time kick offs.
Ron Kerr proved to be top dog this week with his well crafted round of 30 stableford points for 12 holes.
The writer is in awe as he is hard pressed presently scoring this for 18 holes.
Kerr has played six shots better than his midweek handicap to take the win, unfortunately all six shots will now be deducted, and he resumes play this week on a mere shot every second hole at a six handicap.
Recent winner Bob Martin has claimed second place this week with an impressive 28 points, whilst third went to David James who played to his handicap on 24 points.
Remember again, from the week starting April 1, tee off times for the group players has returned to 1pm for a 12.30pm start – ha ha!
Pat Walker Returns in Style
A GOOD field turned up Saturday for the Ladies who vied for a club trophy on an individual stableford day.
In a hotly contested event, half of the field were all within two points to decide the day’s event.
On a countback, the winner was Pat Walker who recorded a round of 41 points or five better than her handicap.
Walker did just enough to edge out the on-fire March girl in Ev Shea who had the same score yet failed to finish as strong.
Jeanette Elliott had 40 points to be one point back, whilst Toni Filmer had 39 points to run fourth, Shea, Filmer and Elliott all claimed balls, with Elliott claiming a further ball for nearest the pin on the Bendigo Bank 10th Hole.
COMING UP: Easter Saturday will see both the men and women compete in individual stableford events for club trophies. On the other Easter holidays, there will most likely be keen golfers hanging around the club looking for a scratch game.
