A COUPLE of things this weekend so this may be short and sweet, but that will depend on what the fishing voice in my head says to me.

On Thursday, April 5 (that means Thursday after Easter) The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will be holding an expired flare collection program at Apex park Lake Albert from 3pm to 7pm.
So if you have some flares that are out of date – and they only last three years from date of purchase – and you are not a soccer fan, the best way to get rid of said flares is to take them to Apex Park on April 5.
Just in case you were wondering, it is an offence to let off flares except in an emergency, so even if you are a soccer fan, it is an offence to let them off for any other reason than if you are in trouble. Wagga is not the only place for collection if you can’t make that day – visit rms.nsw.gov.au/flares or call 13 12 36 - for all the collection places.
On April 19 and 20, Department of Primary Industries, or as we call it Narrandera Fisheries, will be holding a “kids fishing workshop” for up and coming fishermen from the ages of eight to 14 who want to learn all about fishing and a bit more.
A charge of $40 applies per child to all fishing workshops, except the Community Engagement and Special Needs Fishing Workshops, which are conducted free of charge. The charge subsidises the cost of gear used/given to the child at the completion of the day’s activities.
Over the course of the day, children are taken through a series of activity or lesson sessions including: rules and regulations, fishing safety and responsibly, conservation of fish habitats, knot tying, line rigging and baiting, casting techniques, and retrieval of fish and fish handling.
At the completion of the day, each child is receives a rod, reel, tackle box, hook safe, shirt, cap and goodie bag to take home with them. At some venues a barbecue lunch and or morning/afternoon tea is also provided. At the end of the day a quiz session provides each child with a prize to take home, plus a certificate of achievement. I know a couple of adults that should probably attend this as well, the days run from 10am to 3pm, with a maximum of 25 participants, so, if you are interested, get in early as fist in best dressed.
