THE weekend before Easter 2018 is shaping up to be a big one in the Riverina with two of the region’s flagship annual events taking place. The first is the Albury Gold Cup on Friday, March 23, with the Wagga Food and Wine Festival on Saturday, March 24.

The Albury Gold Cup Carnival has established itself as one of the premier country racing carnivals in Australia. It includes 15 races and offers more than $650,000 in prize money, trophies and bonuses. Entry to the Albury Gold Cup is $30 per person at the gate. Visit alburyracing.com.au.

HELD around the Wollundry Lagoon on Saturday, the Riverina BMW 2018 Wagga Wagga Food and Wine Festival is the place to be if you want to sample local gourmet food and wine and enjoy some musical entertainment.
The festival starts at noon and entry is $20 for adults or free for children under 18 years of age. All the profits from the Festival go to charity, with the Rotary Club of Wollundry thrilled to be able to donate $40,000 to the Riverina Cancer Care Centre in 2017.
This year there will be wines from 10 wineries as well as Yenda beers and ciders. There will also be 12 food stalls. This year’s feature act is homegrown star, Darren Coggan. Visit waggafoodandwinefestival.org.au.
