Councillors endorsed the plan at the November Ordinary Council Meeting.
Mayor Brian Ingram said the Hilltops Economic Action Plan was a key strategic document for the Hilltops Council – and region – going forward.
“As we put in place the foundations for strong economic growth, it’s so important to identify our strengths so we can fully harness our potential,” he said.
“The plan is the culmination of a series of community engagement activities including public forums and meetings, stakeholder interviews and consultation with various business chambers and Council committees.
“It was during this consultation that strategies to promote a sustainable economy for the Hilltops Region were identified. These strategies – to be implemented over the short, medium and long-term – will not only help promote economic diversification but will also help provide a boost to our existing industries."
Cr Ingram said the plan mirrors his and many fellow councillor’s election platforms of seeking and welcoming new investment in the Hilltops Region.
"We must ensure we sustain and increase our economic output by broadening our regional economic base," he said.
“This document is also an important tool for the Council to have at its disposal when it comes to lobbying the State and Federal Government for project funding.
This program clearly articulates the direction we’re heading and the ways we’re going to get there through collaboration, industry attraction, industry expansion and business capacity building."
