There’s a lot of information for councillors to take on board, with many projects already in the planning stage.
One of the key priorities has been to get our heads around what’s been done during the administration phase. There’s been significant work put in to get us to where we are today, and it is going to take time for us all to be brought up to speed.
There has been good progress to date in bringing the council together, which includes streamlining customer service across the three former local government areas, consolidating insurance policies, formation of a number of new regional committees, introduction of new online payment services, consolidation of tender services and putting in place a new staffing structure. This is all a good foundation for us to build upon, but there’s certainly plenty more work to be done.
We have a lot of exciting projects in the pipeline and our focus now has to be on action; delivering outcomes for the community with their involvement.
The new councillors will take stock of what’s been achieved, and assess where we go to from here to ensure residents and ratepayers get the services they deserve, the infrastructure they need and, most importantly, a responsive council, ready and willing to listen to their ideas and feedback.
At the end of the day, it’s the community that will guide all of council’s work going forward.
I invite everyone to join in and be a part of what we’re doing as we consolidate the work that’s been done and build on it, so we can grow the Hilltops Region together.
