Harden’s Handicap-Division Pennant Team has been a feature of the club almost since its inception with sadly the Scratch Division Team going by the wayside in recent years. Maybe its our hard fought handicap matchplay Dempster Cup within our club, maybe its just a bevy of steady handicap golfers, who knows, but its starting to pay off in spades.
Our squad for this season has seen eight solid contributors to this eight-man format where if one man was out for family or other important reasons, another has stepped in to the breach admirably. An all round team effort has meant that any combination of the five out of the eight would have held form over this campaign.
Winning three out of the four round games, our team has presented in the final well into first place despite the bottleneck for second and the right to play Harden in the final. That team this year was the seasoned campaigners from Cootamundra. From our squad of Craig Filmer (c), Peter Steinke, Tam Kennedy, Ron Page, Rick Preston, Jamie Cantrill, Brian Tredinnick and John Brownhill, the finals team ended up being Matt Peisley (c), Peter Steinke, Tam Kennedy, Brian Tredinnick and John Brownhill. This team represented the broadest range of handicaps on offer against a Cootamundra team that are tight 10-15 handicappers.
Our boys won the final conducted at Young last Sunday by 4 matches to 1, mirroring our round game against Cootamundra earlier in the season which was the same result. Matt Peisley has brought home a 6/5 victory, Peter Steinke 2/1, Brian Tredinnick took his 3/2 and John Brownhill fought from 4 down to get home 1 up at the 18th. Tam missed out but was still grinning like a rat with a gold tooth at the result. Photos and shirts will be arranged for the team and the captains are working on plaques for the clubhouse.

PAT Walker has burst back on the scene and shown some very rich form of recent weeks. Pat has claimed the ladies event with a very handsome score of 43 points which is a whopping seven shots under her handicap. Pat has waltzed past Jeanette Elliott who still recorded a fantastic round three better than her single figure handicap for 39 points.

WE ARE down to the business end of the Club matchPlay Championship to determine 2017 name which will go on the biggest tin cup in the trophy cabinet. Recent results in the quarter finals to complete that round were, Rick Preston def Kevin Hoppe 5 & 3 and Ron Kerr snuck past seasoned MatchPlay Veteran Bernie Parker by a mere 6/5. The semi finals now look like this; Todd Elliott v Ian Bruce and Ron Kerr v Rick Preston.
