Still talking up their 2016 premiership the girls have been training intensely under the guise of coach Jason Pollard whom hasn’t taken his foot of the throttle since early February. Jason rallied the team together last week and reminded the girls that he will sit the trophy back on the shelf for the next 5 months and its now the focus to earn it.
This year’s squad unveils some new Harden hidden talent which is set to fill the void left by a number of departing players. The inclusion of the Maddie Douglass, Mary Lou Minehan, Teesh Beal and Casey Smith foursome is certain to add not only grunt in defence but pace in attack.
The Hawkettes also welcome back Shauny Murray who has not lost anything during her lay off to add to her brood.
The normal suspects such as the Smiths, Doolans and Emma James will lead the girls around the park each week and will continue to set up plays for Katie Butt, Em Quinn, and Georgia Murray. We will once again look for super subs Molly Fredericks and Lucy Chesworth to inject their special touches when they run on, whilst captain Kate Menz is sure to keep things calm in the middle and will make sure the girls remain focused whether they are chasing a try or moving up in defense.
The weather promises to be great so come up to McLean oval on Saturday to get behind the Hawkettes’ opening game, they take on the Binalong Jersey Girls and one of their squad, a well known local blonde has been bantering with some of the Hawkettes for weeks leading into the match, so there are certain to be some interesting match ups.
Youth League
On Saturday, the Youth League will take on the Canberra Bears in a home match that is sure to be exciting. The Harden boys have won both of their trial matches, playing impressively.
Key players for Saturday’s match will be Nick Stevens, Will Stanley and Zac Pirie, Will Quinn and Patrick Smith leading the way up front.
The Canberra Bears will be very competitive and it should be a very close encounter.
First Grade
The First Grade team will take on the Binalong Brahmans and the rivalry between these two teams guarantees a great match.
The Hawks lost to Woden in their first trial match, but defeated Crookwell in their second. The Brahmans had two wins, defeating Gunning and the UC Grizzlys.
Coach Matt McLay has really impressed the club with his attitude both on and off the field and will have a fair say in Saturday’s match.
Players to watch are centre Jonathon Pouono, while Nathan Schofield and Luke Brown will guide the Hawks around the paddock. Youth League kicks off at 1pm, Hawkettes at 2.20pm and First Grade at 3.20pm.
