The 26-year-old will compete in the open age 84 kilogram division of the International Powerlifting Federation World Championships in June.
Doughty was told of her selection on Wednesday.
While excited for the opportunity she isn’t sure what lies ahead has sunk in just yet.
“I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be selected but it is pretty exciting that I have been,” Doughty said.
“It sorta hasn’t become a reality yet.”
Doughty is one of three Australian girls in her division, with the other competitors in the junior and sub-junior categories.
There will be a 30-strong Aussie contingent, including coaches and officials.
The 26-year-old is expecting the competition to be very tough and plans to put plenty of hard work in at the gym in preparation.
“I’m hoping to squeeze in one more competition before I go just to get the feel for the platform,” she said.
“There will certainly be some big hours at the gym coming up.”
Doughty has only competed once since taking out the Asia-Oceania championships in New Zealand.
After winning gold in December, Doughty won a competition in Sydney where she was also named best female lifter overall.
Apart from the higher standard of competition, the trip to Belarus will also be an eye opener for the former Harefield girl who is now based in Young.
“I don’t know anything about the place really,” Doughty said.
“Apart from it is next to Poland so it will certainly be an exciting trip.”
