What strikes us the most when we enter the twin towns is just how impressive the main thoroughfare is.

Despite numerous visitors passing through every day, it seems that Neill Street in Harden, probably does not get the traffic that it warrants.
The Harden Shire Council should be congratulated for the recent work that they have done in creating a main street which lends itself to becoming the perfect weekend town, where people can sit back, relax and enjoy some of God’s own country.
With the South Coast of New South Wales swelling on the weekends with visitors and holiday makers, Canberra residents could do worse turn than turn in the opposite direction and effectively make Harden Murrumburrah the Manuka of the bush by establishing a wonderful cafe culture in the main part of town.
The twin towns are rich in history and character and being within an hour and a half from the ACT, Harden Murrumburrah offers the perfect solution to avoiding the urban sprawl.
We hear that a large number of people work in information technology these days, so why not make a home at Harden Murrumburrah which is four hours from Sydney, six from Melbourne and a relatively short drive to Canberra?
For many people it is not just the lure of work, but also the various forms of entertainment which keeps or attracts them to the city.
With a number of quality hospitality establishments and many other potential venues at that, the townships which form the gateway to the South West Slopes, might do well to start marketing themselves as a bit of a weekenders town.
Eventually those people making regular trips to the area for a weekend, may fall in love with the place with all its local produce, buy a property and stay.
Hopefully swelling the numbers at the end of the working week would be a good place to start.
It would bring in some much needed revenue to the place, although it would mean that there would need to be sufficient accommodation to suit.
Some other things to look at in the future might be day spas, yoga, pilates, tai-chi, bike tracks, walking tracks, social tennis, horse riding and other forms of exercise, relaxation and entertainment which are all popular and readily available to city folk.
The twin towns particularly so Murrumburrah, seems to be building a strong cafe culture. With potentially extra traffic to the region over a weekend, perhaps more investors would also be willing to try their hand at hospitality also.
Boasting great schools, a nice golf course, some great cafes and of course that wonderful country charm, there are many reasons for people to move to this part of the world, even if just for the weekend for a start.
Retirees could invest in the town with great confidence, knowing that the area has strong medical facilities.
Urban dwellers on the cusp of retirement could sell up in the city, finish their working life a little earlier, in effect taking full advantage of the affordable real estate that Harden Murrumburrah has to offer.
Effectively the structure is here, but there is no flesh on the bones so to speak.
