Jeff Sayle, OAM, one of the legends of Australian rugby union, will be Harden Murrumburrah’s Australia Day Ambassador this year.

The former Wallaby has been involved with rugby for more than 50 years and is currently the president of the Randwick Rugby Club, a position he has held for seven years.
His involvement with rugby began started when he was eight and played 382 games of senior rugby from 1961 to 1980.
He has been involved with rugby since the age of eight. He has played in the Junior Teams both under 8’s and the under 21’s.
During his playing career he represented Sydney and NSW Juniors, Sydney and NSW Seniors, Australia in 1967, and played for the Barbarians.
He has also coached the Sydney and NSW Juniors, Sydney and NSW Seniors, Australian Under 17s, the Australian Barbarians and Randwick, which resulted in seven premierships for the Galloping Greens.
Jeff has been a part of the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club and the Australian Reserve Champions surf boat at Coogee Surf Life Saving Club. Jeff recently received a 50 year pin for his involvement with Coogee Life Saving Club.
He is currently a Patron of Randwick Rugby Club and has recently been awarded in the Randwick Rugby Club Hall of Fame.
Jeff recently received an award from the Randwick City Council for community service to sport in the local area.
He received his Order of Australia Medal in 2006 for services to Randwick Rugby and Coogee Surf Life Saving Clubs.
The Jeffrey Sayle Pavilion at Latham Park, Randwick’s training ground, is named in his honour.
Jeff, a backrower, was capped three times for the Waratahs in 1967 (later becoming a state coach) and reached the pinnacle with a Test cap in the 1967 Bledisloe Cup at Wellington’s Athletic Park.
Harden Murrumburrah will celebrate Australia Day on Monday, January 26, with breakfast in Newson Park and the awards ceremony with the breakfast starting at 8am.
People are being asked to bring their own chairs or rugs to sit on.
There will be entertainment by local musicians and singers.
Wombat will mark Australia Day from 12 noon onwards with a street parade, sausage sizzle and the annual tractor pull.
