This historic event took place during Murrumburrah Public School’s Positive Behaviour For Learning launch.
Ringing the hand-held bell, over the decades has been a job that students have loved doing, however hearing the bells over such a large school has created some difficulties at times.
The system that has replaced the bells is fully computerised enabling consistent start and break-times and can be heard across the school. Students will have the opportunity to vote on which sound they like best.
“One of the very early conversations I had with teachers when starting the job as principal this year was ‘What can we do about the bells?’ “ Clare Crawford said.
“After much consultation with the school community and investigating what works in other schools, we finally decided upon the system which was launched on Friday.”
The old bell will still stand tall in the school grounds and will have ceremonial and historic significance, but will no longer be relied upon for 21st century learning.
