The United States Senate has passed a funding bill, and averted a shutdown of the government.

The Democratic-controlled US Senate has passed a bill to fund the government through to mid-February, averting the risk of a shutdown after overcoming a bid by some Republicans to delay the vote in a protest against vaccine mandates.
