In the most wicked and bitter of wintry weekends, a reasonable field of 44 faced the starter on Sunday for the GO Kruger Trust sponsored Harden Men's Open Tournament last Sunday. With a bevvy of past champions in the mix and a reasonable travelling contingent from Young, Yass, Cootamundra, and ACT Clubs, a field of 44 set forth to contest the event in Stroke, Nett and Stableford divisions.

In concert with the recent rainfall slowing down the track but still with fast greens and tight lies, the Harden Country Club Golf Course bared its teeth in the wintry blast.
Only one member of the whole playing contingent played better than his handicap, proving both how resilient the course is and how tough winter golf can be.
Our 2021 champion, however, was crowned. Paul Deep from Cootamundra brought his boys over to compete and golf runs deep in the Deep family. Dad won the day, however, and with a 1 over par 72, two shots clear of another Cootamundra regular in Simon Lienesch, Paul Deep becomes the 2021 Harden Open Champion. Congratulations also to Simon who posted +3 off the stick for his 74 and runner-up.
In B Grade, our champion out of the two locals tied on 85 and determined by a countback, was none other than Craig Henman. Craig has been building up to this result with some very consistent golf of late. The B Grade runner-up, also on 85 yet with not quite as strong a back 9 as Craig, was Tam Kennedy. Congratulations Gents.
In the after handicap is applied (Nett) results, another local and former Open and Club Champion, Mark Parker took the cookies with a 75 nett. The B Grade Nett was won by Sam Hardy, who was the only member of the field under par. Sam shot an electric round to record a 4 under his handicap, 67 nett result. Great shooting.
Our Stableford division after the one man, one trophy rule was applied, saw another past Open and Club Champion in Peter Elliott claim the bikkies. In B Grade, this event went to perennial favourite Herb Manwaring. Next Best Local is a division awarded also to support the locals supporting the event. Another former Open Champion and Club Champion rose to the occasion in Ben Glover, claiming this prize. Obviously, tough conditions see true champions thrive from the results accumulated on Sunday.
I obviously missed Harry Sachs' card as I did not see it pop up in the results list. Harry appeared somewhat wounded from his Friday and Saturday adventures all around the state with rugby. I trust the tough day in the office on Sunday has not scarred you for your Dempster Cup run?
4 Ball Best Ball Day
The Saturday of the Tournament weekend usually sees a well supported 4BBB day where scratch 4 Ball, Nett Stableford and Medley Nett Stableford results are played for. Saturday was even more bitter a winters day than Sunday and this severely limited the field.
Notwithstanding this, prizes were awarded in this bleak scoring event, and it is noted that it was definitely not a fair weather golfers day.
Scratch 4BBB winners: Maurice Manwaring & Kevin Hoppe - 24 points
Men's Nett 4BBB winners: John Brownhill & Matt Peisley - 34 points
Medley Nett 4BBB Winners: Tam Kennedy & Craig Filmer - 32 points
Certainly not scores like you equate in most 4BBB events where you need 46 or better to be in the circle.
Pepe's Duck Run - Weekend 9 hole Comp
Week two saw the weather and the Tournament get in the way a little bit but a number of players managed to get a round in, so their best 8 of the 12 week run for this tournament, was not affected. Remember, 9 holes anytime on the weekend for $8 with a free drink voucher included to spend after the round. How good is golf?
This week's winner, with 17 points, was Craig Filmer, who picked up 1 plucked Pepe's Duck for his troubles. One shot back and runner-up for the weekend was Herb Manwaring who earns a hand plucked duck.
Greg Stevo got his battlers round in but no doubt had fun as he always does on course with a few mates. We will not mention young Stevo's score but he claims an unplucked duck for his efforts.
Gents, your Pepe's Ducks can be claimed from the bar.
