The cars, a 1988 VL Walkinshaw SS Group A Commodore and a 1990 VN Group A SS Commodore, are expected to attract strong interest following the axing of the Holden brand by US parent company General Motors.

"Who knows what these cars will sell for. They are already fetching well into six figures due to their limited build and extremely low kilometres," Lloyds Auctions Chief Operations Officer Lee Hames said.

"When selecting cars for their potential to increase in value it is important to tick several boxes, namely, rarity, heritage and desirability."

The 1990 Commodore has already attracted a bid of $210,000.

Just 302 were built as part of Australia's Group A racing rules at the time which required a carmaker to build a run of 5000 production cars, after which they could then spin off a special racing model.

Those racing models also had to be made available to the public with the VN SS model the last of those before the rules were changed.

The car features a 5.0 litre V8 engine producing 210 kilowatts of power linked to a six-speed manual gearbox lifted from the Corvette sold in the US by GM.

The 1988 Walkinshaw Commodore has attracted a early bid of $220,000 and was the first model offered by Holden Special Vehicles, established following the maker's split with late racing great Peter Brock.

Only 750 were produced to homologate the car for racing.

It also featured a 5.0 litre V8 engine linked to a five-speed Borg-Warner gearbox.

Bids on the two cars will be taken until April 24 and are being offered after one of the last Holden Commodores to be produced in Adelaide was snapped up at auction for $750,000 in January.

The VF Series II SSV Redline sedan was given the final vehicle serial number and was the last to travel through the body and paint shops at the company's Elizabeth plant, which closed in 2017.
