It was only this time last week when Dr Young said only the most vulnerable members of the community would be locked down if another coronavirus outbreak occurred in the state.
No doubt she hoped it would be longer than seven days before more restrictions would be placed on the city, but her vow was enacted on Friday after a 26-year-old Stafford man returned a positive to COVID-19.
A lockdown of hospitals, aged care facilities, prisons and disability services in the city and Moreton Bay council was ordered.
The COVID-positive man visited a number of venues while infectious over the past week, which is why the lockdown was ordered.
It's good to see such a targeted and rational approach to a new locally-acquired case.
Let's hope the rest of the nation responds to this outbreak with the same sensibility.
You only need to glance at what's happening around the world to appreciate the incredible position Australia is in.
It hasn't been without sacrifice and hardship, but at least our vaccine rollout isn't a race against time like in Mexico, which has officially recorded more than 200,000 COVID-related deaths.
The number of deaths is believed to be closer to 300,000, but the exact figure is unknown because the Mexican government stopped publishing numbers on deaths at the end of 2020 and the country has an extremely low testing rate.
Brazil surpassed 300,000 COVID-related fatalities this week and clocked a record 100,158 new coronavirus cases in one day.
President Jair Bolsonaro's handling of the snowballing outbreak has been a stark contrast to Australia's response.
The Brazillian President has drawn criticism for blocking lockdowns, dismissing masks and sowing doubts over vaccines.
It's easy to forget how far we've come in this fight, especially now most restrictions have eased - excluding in Brisbane - and day-to-day life feels relatively normal (whatever that means).
