The Cootamundra MP welcomed news that upgrade works to improve safety at the bridge will begin on Monday, however she wants the bridge replaced.
"While I am pleased this preliminary safety work is being done I am committed to fighting for a replacement bridge at this site," Ms Cooke said.
"Many people in the community have raised their concerns about this bridge, and it is vital we continue to work to improve road safety.
"I want to acknowledge the hard work of community members including Di Peisley and the Hilltops Freight Industry Group who have passionately advocated for change at this bridge," Ms Cooke said.
The youngest person injured in the crash was three, the oldest was 69 years old.
An eight-year-old boy sustained a fractured leg and a 65-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries.
Two were flown to Canberra Hospital while 24 were taken to Harden-Murrumburrah Health Service.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the works will extend the life of the bridge.
"The maintenance project will deliver improved safety and efficiency for all road users, and will extend the life of the bridge, after a routine inspection uncovered some damage," Mr Toole said.
"Work includes replacing damaged safety barriers and kerb on both sides of the bridge, concrete patching and joint repairs to help ensure the bridge remains safe and serviceable for all road users."
Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm on weekdays from Monday, August 17, and is expected to be complete by mid-October, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions are in place for the safety of workers and motorists, including traffic control, a single lane closure, and a reduced speed limit while work is carried out.
