Rural Aid's 10 Towns Makeover initiative will see the charity commit to helping each of the winning communities for the next five years.

Five towns in the region have already been nominated, they include: Coonabarabran, Parkes, Trangie, Peak Hill and Tullamore.

The $100,000 prize can be for a range of initiatives in the winning community, such as small infrastructure projects, help for the local sporting club or a re-paint of the CWA hall.

Rural Aid chief executive officer Charles Alder said small country towns play a critical role in supporting the social and economic fabric of their local communities and they have symbiotic relationship with the farms located around them.

"We want to bring in people who can makeover the town and commit to the town for the next five years," he said.

"It'll give that town some life and hope that they can get over the drought."

The prize will include annual visits by Rural Aid's farm army of volunteers who will undertake a range of infrastructure projects which town leaders have identified as important to the town and its community.

Nominations close at midnight on September 30 and Mr Alder has urged community members not to miss the chance of including their town.

"If you want to see your country town supported by everyday people and get $100,000 over five years, here's your chance to put your town in the spotlight," Mr Alder said.

A panel of people will assess all nominations with the 10 winners to be announced in late October.
