Replacing the former 3 Ball, 4 Ball and Mixed 4 Ball events, it's now a two-person ambrose with potential qualifiers eligible in men's, mixed and ladies divisions.
The state final will be played at the end of the year at the majestic Bonville course, just south of Coffs Harbour.
Harden's own club event was played for the Coop's Choice Cuts Trophy, and a couple of quality meat trays were laid on for the day. Collecting these with a gem of a round was Tam Kennedy and Craig Filmer, who delivered a card to the scorer at 5-under par off the stick. This amounted to a 59.25 nett. Despite a bogey start, the round had six birdies and plenty of other lip-outs.
Kennedy and Filmer snuck past another great round put forward by Ben and Jack Glover.
Kennedy and Filmer snuck past another great round put forward by Ben and Jack Glover, a mere fraction of a shot behind. Ben's stability and Jack's flare on quite a few holes almost got them there. They will be first sub for the qualifying regional event.
In the mixed division, Ron Kerr and Ev Shea brought a tidy round home to be club qualifiers to the regional event. They returned a score of 68 nett to take the qualifying spot from regular favourites Peter and Jeanette Elliott, who were quarter of a shot back but are still first sub for the regional event.
Players will receive their contact from NSW Golf and will have a choice of six regional events to play at.
MIDWEEK
Regular podium finisher Grahame Taylor again prevailed in the midweek 12-hole par 24 stableford points competition. He shot a solid round, two shots better than his handicap to seal the deal.
Regular podium lurker Peter Steinke again took second on a countback. Bill Kildea, David James and Peter Steinke all tied for 3rd on 25 points, proving that the pack is getting ready to make an assault on par, and their handicaps, in the next few weeks.
THIS WEEK
It's mixed foursomes weekend. Boys and girls will be partnered up and playing alternate shot for one of the club's oldest championship events. Two rounds being played on Saturday and Sunday should see some exciting golf. For those unhooked and unable to present for the mixed gruesomes, you will be playing a 4BBB event on Saturday.
COMING UP
Following the foursomes championships in August will be the men's championships, while the ladies championships be played in early August.
