I have loved to dance my whole life. Family legend says that while propped up in my stroller at four months old, I swayed back and forward in perfect time with the music of the popular television show 'Bandstand'.

It wasn't until I was a teenager that I discovered that the local RSL Club offered kids Ballroom Dancing Classes; and that a boy I liked went. On the very first night, I saw the couples floating around the dance floor and forgot all about the boy.
As an adult, I moved to a registered club and began training in earnest, competing most weekends in Sydney and training almost every night for hours. My teacher encouraged me to become a teacher and I started some evening classes at the local Community College. I continued to compete and teach into my forties.
After I moved to Harden, I became involved in a group that was running classes to battle depression in farmers and had the opportunity to teach in Monteagle. Imagine my surprise when I turned up for the first lesson and was told we could start once the Fire Engines had been moved out of the Fire Station to make room!
When I was asked to coach for Dancing with the Locals, I jumped at the opportunity. Tragedy struck our family earlier this year and I now know personally what a difference having the support of a group like Can Assist can make when your family are going through the worst time of their lives.
The seven couples who are taking part in 'Dancing with the Locals' are judged not only on their dance moves, but by the amount of money they raise for Can Assist. Get behind your favourite couple by dropping some money into their donation boxes:
Georgia Murray - Bunyip Pre-School; Jack O'Connor - Wombat Hotel; Maryanne Fitzgerald - Harden Hospital; Richard Fleming - Flemings Real Estate; Rodney Cooper - Cooper's Butchery; Caron Cantrill - Bendigo Bank; Kirsty Kemp - Garangula office; Adam Walsh - Harden Pharmacy; Terry Ricketts - Vision Concrete (Harden); June Howe - Potts Point Hair salon; Vicki Fairfield-Smith - Harden Country Club; Greg Jamieson - Athair Salon and Prestige Beauty; Jenny Polimeni - Gino's Fruit and Veg (Jugiong); Leigh Butt - Jugiong Motel
Dancing with the Locals performances are now sold out, but could everyone please pick up their tickets by Monday, July 22,as there is a waiting list for people who missed out .
