OUR final day of the ladies' championships was played out last Saturday, with long-term champion Jeanette Elliott sitting in the box seat after the first two rounds the prior weekend. Jeanette took a 13-shot lead into the final round which proved to be convincing despite a spirited late charge from runner-up Maryanne Fitzgerald. Jeanette has been our club's long-term champion setting records of longevity at the top that may never be beaten into the future.
Day three saw Maryanne Fitzgerald shoot the round of the day to win on gross as well as nett. Maryanne has shot an 84/73 to take out the daily prize and make some ground back on Jeanette. Maryanne won by three shots nett on the day from Jeanette runner-up with a 77 nett on a countback from Pat Walker who also put in a strong showing on all three days.
Overall, the championships went to Jeanette with rounds of 81, 83, 85 for a total of 249 from Maryanne who had 90, 87, 84 for a total of 261. The eventual margin being 12 shots. In the Ness Flannery Memorial for best nett overall, it was a much closer showing with Jeanette also claiming this Salver having a combined nett of 225 from Maryanne's 228, only three shots in it or one shot for each day of play. Pat Walker completed her Championship next best on 237 nett.
ROUND one of the Dempster Cup is complete; being an individual event on the last day of round one in the Club MatchPlay, the remaining matches were played with some surprising results.
- Maurice Manwaring def Tam Kennedy (7/5)
- Eric Kuhn def Matt Peisley (one up)
- Darrell Cassidy def John Brownhill (6/4)
- Ron Kerr def Ben Glover (one up)
Next week we will publish the quarter final draw.
IN A welcome return to form, Greg Heycox snatched the Midweek lollies last week, with a round of 28 stableford points around the 12 hole par 24 layout. As Greg beat his handicap and par by four shots, these are now all gone like last weeks pay cheque. Greg will resume duties this week on a new sleeker model (but still generous) handicap of 25.
Three shots back were the dynamic duo of Ron Kerr and Garth Webb who both shot par besting 25 point rounds. Coming up for our Wednesday crew who are scheduled to play on the May 29, will actually be getting together a day earlier on instead to allow the Ladies Tournament free reign on the Wednesday. Mark that in your organisers Midweekers.
- MEN: Round one, 4BBB championships.
- LADIES: individual stableford if numbers permit.
