The Hawkettes trailed 8 to 0 at halftime, but in the second half played some great footy, with Erin Boxsell scoring in her first game for the Hawkettes to level the score, 8 all.
With 20 seconds remaining, Emma James kept a cool head and slotted a field goal for the Hawkettes to seal the victory 9 to 8.
On Saturday, the Hawkettes took on the Belconnen Sharks and won 8 to 4, with Jess Doolan and Georgia Smith leading the way.
Next up was Gungahlin and in a very tight, but great game, the Hawkettes went down 8 to 6, meaning they would finish second in their pool and that they would have to play the top side in the other pool.
West Belconnen have been unbeaten for two and a half years and came out of the blocks very quickly to lead 10 to 0, but the Hawkettes, with their 'never give up' attitude hung in there.
Jess Doolan scored a great try, which was converted by Emma James, to make the score 10 to 6, with two minutes to go.
The Hawkettes went on the attack with some great running by Maddie Douglas. The Smith twins made a break, but the last pass was intercepted as the girls looked to score. West Belconnen held on to take the game 10 to 6 and went on to win the final with a score of 20 to 4 over Gungahlin.
Best players were Jess Doolan, Maddie Douglas, Georgia Smith, Grace Smith and Emma James.
