It is believed that two dogs were responsible for the attack on a miniature horse owned by the West family. The attack caused such horrendous injuries that veterinarians had no option other than to euthanise the suffering animal.
"I fought so long to be allowed to keep my miniature horses in town so they would be safe." Ms West said.
"This is the second time one of my horses has been attacked by dogs. We tried to save Indie, but in the end he had to be put down and now we have lost Bella."
Ms West said she reported the first attack to Hilltops Council, but was told that there was not enough evidence to prove whether the two dogs in question were guilty of the attack and they were released back to their owner.
" I have been told that there have been other attacks on people and pets around this area." Ms West said.
"The thing that worries me the most is that the paddock where we keep our horses is very close to the Public School. Losing Indie and Bella is heartbreaking, as they are a part of our family, but imagine if these dogs attacked a child."
The Express contacted Hilltops Council to ascertain what steps have been taken in regard to the dogs in question, and received the following statement:
'The incident which occurred at Harden last week was very distressing for all parties concerned.
This matter is being fully investigated under the requirements of the NSW Companion Animals Act.
At this point in time the owner of the dogs has surrendered them to Council where they remain under the care and control of Council.
No further comments can be made at this point in time as this is an ongoing investigation.
We do however encourage all dog and cat owners to comply with the requirements of the NSW Companion Animals Act and to ensure that they are appropriately housed, microchipped and registered in accordance with legislative requirements.'
