Despite his team sitting 17 points above Western Sydney ahead of their clash on Saturday, Kurz's long-term future with Adelaide remains unclear beyond July.
Babbel has already put the onus on his struggling outfit - including his off-contract imports - to perform as he begins preparations for next summer.
Kurz said Babbel deserved the right to be given another crack with his club.
"He was a great player and he's an experienced coach as well.
"I think in the first year, he had more problems than he'd have liked. The club now find the decision to give him time to improve the team.
"Yes, that's not the normal way in football. But I prefer this kind of way," Kurz told reporters on Friday.
Kurz hoped his future would be clarified by the end of the month and hoped players would not be affected by the uncertainty.
"I can only answer in this way: When I sign for a club, I always know who was the coach in the next season because you must have a chat with him," Kurz said.
Kurz has arguably been Adelaide's best coach in their history, improving a side that was ninth before his arrival in 2017 to making the finals last year.
They won the FFA Cup this summer, and are currently in fourth spot.
"I have clear ideas in my mind. I'm very hungry for improvement, for success. I think we have to do different things in the future," Kurz said.
"It's very important to know what the (club's) idea is because when I came here 18 months ago, it was another owner, another idea.
"Now it's a new man in. And I'm sure that (chairman) Piet (van der Pol) has his own ideas about the future, and now it's a time to discuss if I'm the right person."
The Reds are without the injured Nikola Mileusnic for at least three games but welcome back Ken Ilso and Vince Lia to their match-day squad.
For the Wanderers, Alex Baumjohann and Mark Bridge are set to make their anticipated returns from injury, however Kwame Yeboah is out.
