TALK about make a welter of it. Someone is into serious handicap masochism I think. Only two weeks ago Andrew Jones produced his best round for many a day. Well, on Saturday he did his best impression of proving it was not a fluke. Jones has yet again shown the field a clean set of heels by producing a 44 stableford point round, eight shots better than his ever diminishing handicap, to beat his nearest competitor by two points. Fantastic shooting - but I can see the handicapper will have a sharp axe waiting for you.
The Scott Fuller champion partner of the Summer came second, also proving his recent consistent form. Nathan Hawkins has been absolutely braining the ball over the last 6 weeks and it is good to see him in contention. Nathan led off the ball comp with 42 points, whilst another Nathan, Nathan Schofield made a comeback to Saturday Golf and recorded 41 points for a ball also. Matt Peisley took the last of the balls with his usual consistent form and 39 points.
Not happy just to win the comp, Andrew Jones also took out nearest the pin on the Bendigo Bank Hole in One Hole.

STUDENTS of the 12 hole midweek comp would know that picking a winner on form is harder than picking a broken nose. But two weeks ago I called that Bob Martin and Peter Steinke were the Smokey’s as my pick very shortly. Last week it was Bob and this week it is Peter’s turn. Great stuff, payment is in the mail for backing up my Bold Personality style tipping.
Peter has recorded 30 stableford points around the 12 hole, par 24 layout to. Beat his handicap by a massive six whole shots. Those six are gone like last weeks toilet paper, and now Peter will resume transmission with only 4.5 handicap to play with. Ouch!
Peter also came second this week on his other day round, tied with Bob Stevo on 26 points, whilst the next best scores were Bob Martin and Ron Kerr on 25 points.
Based on my formula, Ron Kerr and Stevo would have to be certainties to be in the winners box this week, but Bob Martin lurking is of concern. Hmm, good luck with that guys and gals.
THIS WEEKEND: This Saturday is men’s February Medals, Guzzlers Mug and Scratch events, under a stroke format.
