Pool A of Harden, Cootamundra and Tumut all travelled well and made it a large sized field.
Despite the recent run of warm weather, the day proved to be just bearable, with a nicely laid out course and great hospitality.
Entering round two, Harden carried a 1.18 point lead after a strong showing at home last month, yet only a modest travelling contingent of 11 pairs could be mustered.
Harden members decided to put on a clinic, almost as though they were playing on their home track. Four of our pairings tied for the lead on 46 stableford points and our fifth pairing recorded 44.
These pairings received prizes and/or balls: Kevin Hoppe and Ron Page (46), John Hawkins and Brian Wales (46), Jamie Parker and Ian Bruce (46), Craig Filmer and Nathan Hawkins (46), Tom Poole and Craig Henman (44).
Harden’s eight score average for the team pointscore came to 43 and with 1.5 point travel bonus our day’s total was 44.5.
Cootamundra just pipped Harden on the day with a slightly better travel bonus and a total of 44.916, whilst Tumut had a modest day at home of only 37.2.
After two rounds, and with the Cootamundra match only left to play, the points table looks this way: Harden 91.25, Cootamundra 89.49, Tumut 77.08.
So calling out all Harden players for Cootamundra on February 3. The meagre 1.25 point lead could fade to nothing if we do not play the system and do two things – travel in strong numbers, and play reasonably well.
SATURDAY saw the ongoing summer stablefords continue and in a turn up for the books, Andrew Jones has worked out the wrinkles in his game and played like a man possessed.
Jones was 10 shots better than his handicap recording 46 stableford points and blitzing the field by at least five points.
