After storms on Friday night the ground had a pool of water in the covers area and the remaining outfield was wet and muddy.
For the sanity of the mothers who wash the cricket clothes the game was abandoned and moved to Binalong.
Bookham won the toss and decided to bat in the hot conditions.
Their innings got off to the worst possible start with a “Royal Duck” when Adam Greenwood was bowled by Jeff Brown with the first ball of the game.
Greenwood was unlikely as Brown was struggling with a groin injury.
Things got worse for Bookham when Kelvin Brown snapped up Josh Robinson with a reflex catch in first slip off the bowling of James Woodhead for 8.
At this point disaster struck the Hornets when gun recruit Scott Duncan tore a hamstring.
The big boy was lumbering along and went down like a buffalo that had been shot.
The Hornets are now fearful that regardless of the therapy administered by his wife Lucy mid-week it may not be enough to have him back for this weekend’s crucial game.
Play continued after Duncan was taken from the field and gun batsmen McCauley Harvie had the scoreboard ticking over. Jack Nicholls had David Bonnett LBW for 1.
However the turning point was the introduction of Paul Potts into the attack, first ball he tempted Harvie (32) to drive and a good catch taken by Jeff Brown in covers.
Then with the fifth ball of the over he fooled Brad Hazel with a turning delivery that hit middle stump.
After a bit of lip in the field, Jeff Brown returned to bowl to Elliott Southwell.
Second ball rattled his helmet while the sixth ball came off Southwells shoulder and cannoned into the stumps, no more lip.
The tail was then cleaned up by Jack Nicholls, Ewan Stewart and James McDougall with Bookham making 98.
Best bowler was thirteen year old Jack Nicholls with the figures of 2 for 9 from 5 overs.
Harden innings got off to a good start with Kai Steele back in good form.
Paul Potts picked up from where he left off before Christmas and still could not put bat onto ball. He was finally out for an entertaining three when bowled by Adam Greenwood.
Steele and Jeff Brown took control of the game hitting every loose ball. Steele was finally bowled by Josh Robinson for 41, including eight fours.
James Woodhead came and went for one which left Brown and Jack Nicholls (9) to get the team home.
Brown retired on 39 before the total was reached to allow youngster Ewan Stewart to hit the winning runs.
Hornets 3/101 in the 16th over.
Philip Woodhead won player of the match after being a late call-in and fielding like a young 60-year-old.
Special mention to Ruby Woodhead who also played at late notice and fielded for the whole game.
Ruby is an up and coming female cricketer at the age of 14 having won three consecutive junior premierships, last year’s as captain of the Binalong junior side.
